PolyExtrude

PolyExtrude pushes faces out of a mesh, or into it, and builds walls that join them to the rest. An inset can shrink the faces first to leave a lip, so one node makes a raised panel, a sunken pocket or a stepped block. Use it for panel details on a sci-fi crate, a window recess in a wall, buttons, or a field of greebles.

Mesh

The mesh whose faces you want to push out or in.

Mesh

The mesh with the chosen faces extruded.

Parameter What it does Default
Apply to Which faces get extruded: Everywhere extrudes every face, or pick a named selection. Invert flips the choice. Everywhere
Divide Into Connected raises touching faces together as one block, like a raised panel. Individual extrudes each face on its own, with its own walls. Options: Connected, Individual Connected
Distance How far the faces move out. Negative values push them in to make a pocket. 0.1
Inset Shrinks the faces before they move, leaving a lip around the edge. Negative values flare them outward. 0
Direction Which way the faces move. Point Normals follows the surface, so a curved area grows evenly; Front Normal moves each block straight out and keeps its exact shape. Options: Point Normals, Front Normal Point Normals
Output Front Keeps the new top faces. Turn off for an open-topped shape: the walls still rise, with no lid. On
Front Selection Names the new top faces as a selection, so a later node (another PolyExtrude, Bevel, Paint) can pick them. Leave blank for none. Shown when Output Front is On. Blank
Output Back Adds a bottom face under each extrusion, sealing it into its own closed block. Off keeps a closed mesh as one clean shell. Off
Back Selection Names the bottom faces as a selection for later nodes. Leave blank for none. Shown when Output Back is On. Blank
Output Side Keeps the side walls that join the moved faces to the rest of the mesh. Turn off to leave the top faces floating. On
Side Selection Names the side walls as a selection for later nodes. Leave blank for none. Shown when Output Side is On. Blank
  • Bevel: soften the new edges after extruding.
  • Delete: remove faces instead of pushing them.
  • Shape nodes: the other nodes that reshape a mesh.
