Smart UV
Smart UV unwraps a mesh automatically: it lays every face out flat on the texture, so the mesh can be painted and exported with its textures. There are no seams to mark. It groups connected faces that point the same way into islands and packs them side by side, so separate parts never share texture space. Where a group would fold over itself, such as an overhang that blends back into the surface below it, it is split too, so no two faces ever share texture space. It works best on hard-surface props such as crates, walls and gravestones; for creatures, rocks and other curved shapes use Auto Unwrap. Put it before the first paint node.
Inputs
Section titled “Inputs” Mesh
The mesh to unwrap.
Outputs
Section titled “Outputs” Mesh
The same mesh with UVs, ready to paint.
Parameters
Section titled “Parameters”| Parameter | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
Angle limit | How much the surface may bend, in degrees, before a new UV island starts. Lower gives more, smaller islands with less stretching. | 66 |
Island margin | The gap left between islands, so a color painted on one does not bleed onto its neighbor. | 0.02 |
